Ancient and indigenous cultures from around the world recognize, honor, and celebrate the four elements that make up life on this planet: earth, air, fire, and water. Many cultures and traditions also believe in a fifth element: for the Ancient Greeks it was aether, in tarot it is The Spirit (represented in the Major Arcana), in Japanese philosophy it is “the void," and in Buddhism it is space. How can we utilize the sacred framework of the four-plus elements to enrich our lives with meaning and purpose, and find more harmony and balance with nature?
We are looking for work that explores, celebrates, or is inspired by the four-plus sacred elements from all areas of the Pingree community—students, faculty/staff, parents/guardians, alumni, and friends. 2D and 3D artwork, creative writing limited to one page, musical or theatrical performances, and video art will be considered. Artwork will be reviewed by the gallery director and student curators and several prizes will be awarded. Follow the link for submission forms and guidelines.
