Pingree’s Pickleball Club hosted a tournament to benefit Bambino Baskets, a local charity providing essential supplies for underserved families. Organized by students Linh Nelson '25 and Luke Tsiaras '25, the event attracted 30-32 participants and encouraged players to donate items like diapers, diaper cream, and baby shampoo.
The tournament’s origin stemmed from a combination of past experiences and the community spirit at Pingree. Tsiaras, who participated in last year’s tournament, was inspired by the event’s success and the positive impact it had on the school. Meanwhile, Nelson was motivated by her college counselor to revitalize the club this year, after the previous student leaders graduated and left a leadership void. Knowing that Tsiaras had played in the tournament the year before, Nelson approached him to co-lead the effort.
The tournament not only brought Pingree’s pickleball players together for some friendly competition but also served as a platform for raising awareness and collecting donations for Bambino Baskets. Before their matches, participants were asked to contribute items such as baby supplies, resulting in a large collection of goods that will be delivered to the charity after the event.
Linh and Luke hope this club inspires others to get involved with charities and give back to the community in meaningful ways.
