Nora Pierce, a senior at Pingree School, has been recognized as a 2023 National Merit Scholarship Finalist. This prestigious recognition is awarded to less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.
A resident of Ogunquit, ME, Nora has proven herself to be an exceptional student throughout her high school career. Her dedication to her studies and passion for learning have earned her recognition as one of the top scholars in the country. She credits the dedication of Pingree faculty members as contributing to her success. “One of the best things about my Pingree education has been the incredible support network I’ve gained and the skills that come with it,” Pierce said. “I’ve had so many amazing teachers in my time at Pingree, and the bonds I’ve formed are a unique opportunity that I wouldn’t have anywhere else. The teachers here care so much about their students and have encouraged me to always seek help while instilling a love of learning.”
Following a rigorous selection process that included taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) and a detailed scholarship application demonstrating academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, leadership, and community service, Nora was selected as one of 7,140 high school students to earn the National Merit Scholar distinction.
"We are incredibly proud of Nora and all that she has accomplished," said Dr. Zara Spooner, assistant head of school for instruction and equity at Pingree School and Nora’s advisor. "Her dedication to academic excellence and her passion for learning make her an outstanding student and a true asset to our community."
As a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Nora is now eligible for a variety of scholarship opportunities offered by the program's corporate sponsors and participating universities. She plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s BS/MD program in conjunction with Albany Medical College.
Congratulations, Nora!
