On January 25, our community gathered for our annual commemoration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In keeping with this year’s theme, Building the Beloved Community, we paused classes to build relationships across advisory groups, center belonging, and envision a community where all are seen, heard, and valued.
The program featured an inspiring address from accomplished performer and singer/songwriter Bryan Terrell Clark, best known for his role in Broadway’s Hamilton. Using the stories of Dr. King and George Washington as his foundation, Bryan encouraged students to be their authentic selves, start with their sphere of influence, and focus on their desired ends to fuel their motivation and joy in the journey.
His focus on passion and purpose echoed the words of previous guest speakers Belle Liang and Tim Klein, authors of How to Navigate Life. We are grateful to Dr. Spooner and Ms. Liu for creating and facilitating this impactful program with colleagues and students.
