As we approach the start of the new school year, our captains are back on campus, ready to dive into preseason training through the Captain Workshop program.
The Captain Workshop program equips our student leaders with essential skills to be effective mentors, role models, and advocates for positive change. Captains go beyond merely overseeing practices; they are pivotal in shaping our school’s culture and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for everyone.
With the leadership skills gained from the workshop, our captains are stepping up to motivate their peers, prepare thoroughly for each practice, and communicate effectively. They are focused on building a positive team culture, emphasizing teamwork, and managing expectations both on and off the field. They’re also developing their problem-solving, patience, and inclusivity skills to ensure everyone feels valued and involved. Effective communication with teammates and coaches, along with fostering team cohesion and resilience, are central to their approach.
The training also helps our captains lead with empathy and effectiveness, contributing to a positive and equitable school culture.
Dr. Spooner, Ms. Liu, Jabari Hutchins, Betsy Kennedy, and Mr. Moran are bringing their expertise to guide our captains. Their insights and support will be crucial as our leaders embrace their roles and responsibilities.
We’re excited to see how our captains will apply what they’ve learned to make a meaningful impact and drive positive change throughout the year!
Let's go, Highlanders!
