What to Support

The Pingree Fund

The Pingree Fund is essential to everything we do. Every year.

Independent schools rely on annual philanthropy to help bridge the gap not covered by tuition and endowment income. The Pingree Fund is a collective, community-driven fund that provides financial resources to fulfill the school’s mission and sustain core programs and to fulfill the school’s mission. Each year, we rely on this critical support that strengthens Pingree School and impacts every student, every faculty member, and every aspect of our program. Donors have the flexibility to designate their gifts to one or more of the following annual fundraising priorities:

Unrestricted: Flexible investments in every student with an immediate impact on our program.
Prep@Pingree: Support academic programs, cultural enrichment, summer internships, and mentorship to ambitious middle and high school students from Lynn, Lawrence, and surrounding communities. Click here to learn more about our program.

Endowments

The importance of Pingree’s endowment to the present and the future of our school cannot be overstated. Pingree’s endowment is a dedicated and permanent source of funding that supports a growing portion of our annual operating budget in support of a number of needs including financial assistance, faculty salaries, professional development, and visiting lecturers.

Unrestricted endowment contributions provide Pingree with long-term financial flexibility. Named funds, restricted to a specific purpose, allow alumni, parents, and friends to honor or memorialize themselves or loved ones in a particularly meaningful way. There are different types of restricted endowment funds, including scholarships, department and faculty chairs, and professional development funds. Planned Giving

Planned gifts, or legacy gifts, are a great way to support Pingree and make a lasting impact on the School. A popular way to commemorate graduation, reunion, or life milestones, planned gifts include any estate provision by will or living trust, IRA beneficiary designation, or certain gift arrangements that pay income in return.

Any future gift of this type qualifies the donor for membership in the Pegasus Society, Pingree’s legacy gift society. If you have already included Pingree in your estate plans, but have not yet told the School, we encourage you to get in touch. This provides Pingree with the opportunity to thank you and to ensure proper stewardship of your eventual gift.

Even if you wish to share nothing more than the fact that you’ve included a provision for Pingree, that information would be helpful and would allow us to welcome you to the Pegasus Society. You only need to let us know — all information is kept confidential.

Ways to Give

Thank you for considering a gift to Pingree School. All contributions are tax deductible and will be acknowledged promptly for tax purposes. Pingree operates on a fiscal year from July 1 to June 30. Gifts received by June 30 will count toward that year’s fundraising total.

Donor Advised Funds

A donor advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support your favorite causes.

If you have a donor advised fund, DAF Direct enables you to recommend grants to Pingree School directly from your DAF (as long as your DAF's sponsoring organization is participating). Explore the following DAF options (login required):

Gifts of Stock

By arranging a gift of appreciated stocks directly to Pingree, you can avoid the capital gains tax that would be incurred if you sold the securities. You may also take a charitable income tax deduction equal to the value of the mean of the high and low prices of the stock on the day of transfer to Pingree.

If you wish to make a gift of stock, please contact Director of Advancement Cara Lawler with the name of the stock and the number of shares to be transferred. This notification is the only way the School is able to identify the donor. We will then provide you the DTC or wire transfer instructions necessary to initiate the transfer.

IRA Gifts

Under longstanding law, qualified donors may make outright gifts of up to $100,000 per year to Pingree from their IRAs—so-called QCDs. The amount donated to charity is excluded from the donor’s taxable income. In addition, the distributions may help satisfy a donor’s required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. Moreover, because the QCD offers an exclusion from taxable income rather than a deduction, this strategy is not limited to taxpayers who itemize their deductions. As a result, it may be used by non-itemizing donors who do not ordinarily receive any tax benefit for their charitable gifts.

To benefit from this gift opportunity, the following qualifications (among others) must be met:

The donor must be age 70 ½ or older at the time of transfer.
The maximum amount a donor may transfer is $100,000.
The gift must be outright. Gifts to donor-advised funds or to life income vehicles do not qualify.
The gift must be transferred directly from the IRA account by the IRA administrator to Pingree. Donors with check-writing ability for their IRAs may use this feature to complete their gift.

Corporate Matching Gift

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees, retirees, and/or spouses. Taking advantage of these programs can double or sometimes triple the impact of your giving. If your company is eligible, simply request a matching gift form from your employer and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will take care of the rest.
