SAT, ACT, and College Essay Prep

Summer@Pingree will be offering three courses this summer for rising juniors and seniors. Classes will be taught by two instructors, Karen Madorsky and Sharon Shore Taitelbaum.

Preparing for the PSAT/SAT

This course will help the student in becoming completely prepared for the newly designed SAT and/or PSAT with a total of 21 hours of small group and individualized expert instruction. Classes will focus on skill development, proven test-taking strategies, and will include proctored practice tests, all of which will enable students to take the PSAT and/or SAT with confidence and expertise.

DATES: Mondays and Wednesdays, July 19, 24, 26, 31 and August 2, 7 and 9
TIMES: 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Pingree School
COST: $750 (cost includes cost of books and printed materials).

Preparing for the ACT

This ACT course gives students the skills and techniques needed to raise their college admissions test scores. Master teachers in English, mathematics, reading, science, and writing guide participants in small groups based on individual needs. At the end of 21 hours of instruction and proctored tests, students will be completely prepared to take the ACT with confidence.

Writing an Effective College Essay

This course will help students get a head start on the college application process by preparing a great college essay. Participants will learn just what makes a college essay a winner by examining successful essays, brainstorming for unique ideas, and completing an impressive personal narrative.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:


Karen has taught English to middle school and high school students for over 30 years. She has a BA in English from SUNY Albany and a MA in reading from Salem State. She has worked for several years privately with students helping them prepare their college essays and has served as a consultant for the past two years at Kipp Academy in Lynn, helping their students prepare college essays. She also does extensive tutoring for the SAT and ACT and for the past two years, she has helped students at Pingree to develop their admissions essays through afterschool and summer courses.

Sharon is an experienced math teacher with over 30 years in classrooms in Maine, Michigan, and Massachusetts. She has taught most levels of mathematics, primarily middle and high school, and regularly prepares students with strategies and content for SSAT, SAT and ACT exams. Sharon is currently an instructor at Merrimack College in Andover.
