Head Coach: Robert Rao

Coach Rao joined the Pingree coaching staff in 2016. He is a Nike Junior Golf Camp Instructor at Beverly Golf & Tennis and also works as a member of the Grounds and Pro Shop employee at Olde Salem Greens. Coach Rao has also served as an assistant Golf Pro/PGA Apprentice at Thomson Country Club in North Reading, MA.

Assistant Coach: Ed Silvey

After concluding his basketball and baseball careers at the secondary and college levels (Bentley University), Ed played both sports at highly competitive amateur levels for another eight years. When his children began youth sports, Ed started coaching baseball in Reading—a coaching career that spanned over 30 years. Ed coached Little League as well as every successive level thereafter, including the Reading Bulldogs (college, post-college, and other highly accomplished players) in Boston’s Intercity League.

During the Winter 2022/2023 basketball season, Ed accepted a single-season assignment as Assistant JV Boys Basketball coach at Phillips Academy Andover. A successful entrepreneur, Ed holds a BS in Finance, an MBA, has served as an adjunct instructor of Business for 11 years, and is a member of Ferncroft Country Club. Ed is excited to join the Pingree coaching staff and is committed to providing each player with an enjoyable basketball experience, an opportunity to heighten their knowledge and appreciation of the game, an opportunity to develop their basketball skills to a level commensurate with their individual motivation and ability, as well as guidance and mentorship regarding commitment to team goals, good sportsmanship, and representing Pingree responsibly.
