Inspiring Creativity, Fostering Expression

At Pingree School, we believe that artistic expression is fundamental to a complete education. Our vibrant performing and visual arts programs provide students of all experience levels with the opportunity to explore, create, and refine their craft under the guidance of dedicated faculty—who are not only passionate educators but also working artists in their fields. For those new to the arts, our required Grade 9 Arts Program serves as an entry point, introducing students to a range of disciplines and helping them build confidence in their creative abilities. As they progress, students seeking a deeper challenge can immerse themselves in our APEX visual and performing arts programs, which provide advanced coursework and pre-professional training in music, dance, theater, and visual arts.

As soon as I came to Pingree, I found myself through music and flourished. Since then, I have had the opportunity to write my own music, and share it with the world, which I would have never done without the support I have received here. Pingree pushed me to become the best version of myself, and has given me so much time and positive feedback to pursue what I love. I would have never become the person I am today without the unwavering support I received.Colbie Lind J.Current Student

Space to Create

Whether students are picking up a paintbrush for the first time, composing original music, or rehearsing for a sold-out show, the Center for Visual and Performing Arts ensures that every artist, at every level, has the opportunity to develop their talents and share their creative voice with the community. At its heart is the Mary Weld Pingree Theater, a 400-seat venue that sets the stage for dynamic performances, while dedicated spaces such as the ceramic and dance studios, a Raku kiln, photography labs, and a theater scene shop provide hands-on opportunities for artistic expression. Music students benefit from instrumental and choral rehearsal rooms, a digital music lab, private practice spaces, and a recording studio with an interconnected control room featuring industry-standard software and professional recording equipment.

In our digital music lab and recording studio, students use Ableton Live and Apple Logic Pro to learn how to program drum beats, use synthesizers and MIDI controllers to create chords and melodies, and use audio effects to process recordings of instruments and vocals.

Named in honor of beloved longtime ceramics teacher Liz Taft, our ceramics studio allows multiple ceramicists to work at their craft. It also features a kiln, glazing station, and a wide array of tools.

Pingree's music ensembles are open to all instrumentalists. Students have the chance to perform in a variety of contexts and musical genres based on their personal musical interests. Outside lessons can also be arranged through the Art Department during a student's free period.

While most of our students make use of our digital photography equipment and assets, we are proud to still offer a traditional darkroom for budding photographers interested in film.

Each music classroom is wired to a central control room with the same software and equipment used in professional recording studios. Students have the opportunity to share their recordings with the Pingree community.
