We See You Expanding Your Mind.

Pingree’s four-year English program provides a space for students to reflect, connect meaningfully with literature, develop strong communication skills, and engage with the frailty and vitality of the human experience—all with the purpose of becoming more authentic and informed citizens.

Our goal is to cultivate a natural curiosity that leads to revelations and breakthroughs in students’ intellectual and personal lives.  Our small class sizes foster lively discussions, equipping them with the skills to think critically, express themselves confidently, and navigate the complexities of the world.

“The teachers at Pingree are what make this place epic. Aside from being incredibly smart, they are good people who care deeply about their students. Every one of my teachers takes the time to share their observations on what I am doing well and how I can improve. Having teachers provide specific and genuine feedback creates a fun and motivating learning experience.”Trevor Payne Current Student

At Pingree, English classes are more than reading and writing—they’re a space for curiosity, creativity, and connection. Literature, language, and expression are taught in combination, with every course designed to spark lively discussion, encourage bold thinking, and foster strong student-teacher relationships. Our engaging curriculum and lively discussions make our classes an exciting journey of discovery and intellectual growth.

Grade 9

Story, Self, And Society

Grade 10

 Literary Forms

The Tenth Grade curriculum develops writing strategies, reading practices, and discussion principles established in Grade 9 through a study of different genres—novella, short story, essay, poetry, and drama.

Grade 11

American Literature

Grade 11 students examine works of American writers from the seventeenth century to the modern era, exploring conflicts between the individual and society in terms of race, gender, and economic issues.
