Campus Life

To be a member of the Pingree community is to be aware that each day offers a chance to learn something vital, and every interaction has the potential to influence the course of a student’s life.   There is no “typical” day at Pingree. In any given week, an invited speaker may open a student’s eyes to the impact of war on children in Uganda or the experiences of a teacher who served in the Peace Corps.  A biology assignment might spark a lifelong interest in ecology, or a teacher’s compliment on an essay could awaken a young writer’s awareness of the power of words.

We value personal relationships and cultivate an environment where students and adults are challenged to communicate, grow, take intellectual risks, and step out of their comfort zones.  We are a community of individuals with distinctive strengths and talents. In the classroom, in clubs and organizations, and on the playing fields, we provide numerous opportunities for students to grow into leaders.  The breadth of our extracurricular offerings — which range from competitive math and science leagues to a vibrant Children’s Theater ensemble to a strong and vocal Multicultural Coalition — reflects our appreciation of students’ diverse interests and our commitment to supporting their passion for excellence.

Dean of Student Life

The Dean of Student Life, Buddy Taft,  is responsible for all areas of student life that are not directly a part of the academic, athletic or afternoon programs, such as attendance, lateness, and minor and major discipline issues. The Dean of Student Life is the advisor to the Student Council as well as the coordinator of the class trips in the fall and the student activities groups during the year. The Dean of Student Life is responsible for overseeing the Class Dean System and the disciplinary process.

Class Deans, in conjunction with a team of faculty, are responsible for all activities, attendance and minor disciplinary issues for their respective classes. In addition, the Class Deans organize and run parent evenings and other social events. All Class Deans, along with the Dean of Student Life and the Director of Advising and Counseling, comprise the Student Life Committee which meets regularly to discuss student issues.
