Athletics at Pingree are considered an extension of the classroom. Through sports, students expand their self-confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn to accomplish goals as members of a team. At Pingree, coaches, players, and spectators value cooperation and sportsmanship as highly as competition or a winning score.
Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are required to participate in three seasons of afternoon activities, many of which are sports, while seniors must participate in a minimum of two seasons. Commitment to a sport means attendance at all practices, games, and scheduled activities. Students who do not wish to participate in athletics can take part in other afternoon activities.
Pingree fields 44 teams in baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, football, ice hockey, field hockey, soccer, cross-country, golf, ultimate Frisbee, swimming, sailing, and volleyball. Participation on sports teams approaches 80 percent of the student body each season, and we offer multiple levels of most sports so there is an opportunity for everyone to be involved. Over the years, Pingree sports teams have achieved an enviable record of success, and the enthusiasm level on game days is always high. Go Highlanders!
