Art is the universal human language, and at Pingree, the arts are an essential part of the curriculum. Through the study of visual and performing arts, students gain intellectual and analytical skills, learn to interpret and communicate profound concepts, and discover fresh perspectives on the human experience. Our arts faculty members are talented, practicing artists with a gift for inspiring and mentoring students. We foster strong relationships through individualized instruction that enables budding artists to discover and develop their own unique forms of expression and creativity.
As a department, we are dedicated to honing the young artist’s technical and practical skills, as well as celebrating the power and wonder of imagination. Our approach to art is rich with humor, empathy, and an awareness of the interconnectedness of the arts with the world at large.
Our program includes a wide variety of academic courses for half, full, honors, and AP credit. All first-year students participate in our Freshman Arts program, which includes a rotation through each visual and performance art discipline. We encourage all students to embrace a variety of artistic experiences and to develop their own distinctive forms of creative expression. As their interests and talents evolve, students may pursue performing and visual arts experiences through independent study projects, clubs, after school activities, and private lessons through our Music Studio.
