Remembering Ross Yanco '88

Dear Pingree Alumni,

Last February, the Pingree School community was saddened by the loss of our dear friend, Ross Yanco. Ross died unexpectedly in his home on February 26, 2012. There was a remembrance of Ross in the Fall 2012 Pingree Bulletin.

We both had the privilege of playing baseball with Ross at Pingree. Ross’s passion for and dedication to the game were truly inspirational. After a successful career at Pingree, Ross continued to play baseball for the Bryant College Bulldogs. In recent years, Ross stayed involved with the game, coaching local and club teams in and near his town of Rutland, Massachusetts.

Ross maintained his ties to Pingree after graduation. As part of our Senior Career Series, he shared his professional experiences as a regional sales manager for an electronic scoreboard and sport display product company with current students. He also collaborated with Pingree Director of Athletics Alan McCoy and the athletics department to install scoreboards on every field at the school.

To honor Ross and his love of Pingree, we would like to establish an award in his name. The Ross Yanco '88 Baseball Award will be given to a Pingree baseball player who exemplifies Ross’s passion and dedication to the game, along with his other fine qualities. In order to create this award, we need to raise $10,000. Our goal is to have the trophy in hand by May 3, 2013 so that Ross’s family and classmates can gather on the eve of the 25th Reunion of the Class of 1988 to unveil the award. They will then turn it over to the school for the annual spring sports award ceremony.

The trophy will read: The Ross Yanco ’88 Baseball Award is presented annually to a Pingree School baseball player who, in the opinion of the coaching staff, best exemplifies Ross's effort, sportsmanship, team play, and love of the game.

Thank you in advance for making a donation to memorialize our wonderful classmate. Please click here to make your gift today.

Sincerely,

Chris McCarthy ’88                                                      Josh Sostek ‘87
