Multicultural Education Clubs and Events

Allies For Racial Equality (ARE)

An ally has been defined as a member of the dominant culture who takes an active stand against social injustice.  Our group hopes to facilitate open discussions to better understand the issue of white privilege and its impact on racial inequalities in our community and in our nation.  The intent of ARE is to create spaces where students and adults can be frank and honest while discussing issues of race.

Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA)

Pingree’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student group that promotes open dialogue and education about sexual orientation, homophobia, and gender stereotyping. We strive to create an inclusive school community that respects and supports individuals of any sexual orientation or gender identity, and we hope to help build a future in which all diversity is appreciated as a positive and enriching aspect of our human experience. All members of the school are invited to attend our bi-weekly meetings and to participate in events such as Day of Silence.

ISLAM

This club is for all students and adults interested in discussing and learning about current events, culture, and identity in the Muslim world.

Pingree Multicultural Coalition (PMC)

This student-led group creates a safe place for students to discuss social justice, equity, and diversity topics inspired by current events. PMC also plans events that celebrate multiculturalism. Past events include school assemblies and an annual school-wide Multicultural Awareness Day.

Each year, the PMC holds a welcome reception for new families who self-identify as families of diversity to meet one another, their child's advisor, and other memebres of the community.  See a slideshow from the 2011 PMC Welcome Reception by clicking here

People of Color (POC)

POC is a safe place where students and faculty of color can come together to better communicate, understand, and address issues that come up for members in our community. The intent is to provide an opportunity for students and faculty to honestly engage in discussions about their experiences without feeling inhibited by the presence of people who do not share the same identity and experiences. POC aims to support and empower people of color in our school community by letting students and faculty connect personally to share their common experiences.

Women Empowered (WE)

Women Empowered is a student-led organization focused on increasing community awareness concerning topics important to women. WE also seek to create a safe environment for students to meet and discuss gender-related topics. We look forward to sponsoring and participating in organizations in our greater community that support women and their dreams. Within the Pingree community, WE plans to sponsor cross gender discussion days, dances, and movie nights.
