A Message from PPA President Lisa Gaquin

The welcome speeches have been given and the work (and fun) have begun. Pingree Parents Association (PPA) is off to a fast start this year. Hopefully you have had a chance to attend the new parent coffee, Convocation, or our first PPA meeting. It is difficult to quantify the positive “vibe” about Pingree but attendance at recent events has been robust. Over 90 people attended the new parent coffee and about 60 parents attended this week’s opening PPA meeting. Those are big numbers for a small school.

If you haven’t been able to make it to campus yet, it’s not too late to get involved. Please click here for the volunteer sign up sheet and lend your support and talent to a committee or event that suits your interests. Even if you can only help out once this year we value your contribution to the Pingree community. Below are some upcoming events you won’t want to miss:

9/22 - Parent Visiting Night - aka Curriculum Night - This is your chance to meet your child’s teachers and advisors and learn about their classes. Class representatives and students will be there to help you find your way.

10/5 - Parent Workshop with Dr. Jennifer Bryan - Consultant and psychologist Jennifer Bryan specializes in gender identity and sexual identity development. This is an important opportunity to engage in the needed and meaningful conversations in support of our mission “ensuring that Pingree is open and welcoming to a population that is all-inclusive.” A light dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. Please RSVP to Di Mathey at dmathey@pingree.org.

10/7 - Grandparents Day - This is a highlight for students and their grandparents. Please click here to send us your information so that invitations can be sent directly to grandparents. Contact Di Mathey at dmathey@pingree.org if you have questions.

10/20 - Freshmen Potluck Dinner - Class representatives will be in touch about what you can bring to the table. This evening focuses on what a freshman at Pingree is all about. You’ll hear from Dean of Students, Buddy Taft, Class Dean Jay Esty and others.

10/21 - French Students Arrive - If you are interested in hosting a French student please contact Linda May at lmay@pingree.org. This is a great opportunity for your entire family to experience teenage cultural comparisons first hand. My family hosted when our daughter was a freshman and it was a great way to get more connected to Pingree.

10/22 - Homecoming - Each class supports homecoming festivities in a different way. Stay tuned for more information from your class representatives.

10/25 - Sophomore Potluck - A chance for sophomore families to share a meal and learn more about what it means to be a Pingree sophomore.

Ongoing - Snack Shack - Snack Shack opened for the first time for this Wednesday’s home games. We still need volunteers to help keep our athletes full of Gatorade and snacks.

There are plenty of other upcoming events that parents can attend to support the greater Pingree community. It’s our job to help parents support the school’s mission in an engaging and enjoyable way. Please check the school calender frequently. The Parents Association is always working with the administration to improve communication with parents. If you have suggestions about how we can do a better job in this area please let us know.

Thank you for supporting a great community of teachers and learners!

With gratitude from Pingree Parents Association,

Lisa Gaquin
