Picture of the Week

In between classes, seniors discuss new academic schedule.
Message from Pingree
Parents Association President
The photo is always the same
pose: our three daughters standing on our front stairs, smiling broadly,
wearing new clothes and bright backpacks filled with unsharpened pencils and
unwrinkled notebooks. Some years one of them holds a handmade sign declaring
“first day of school.”This year the eagerness and newness they felt was the
same, but they resisted my request to pause on the stairs. “We’ll do it later,
Mom,” my oldest daughter said confidently. My hand holding the camera dropped.
We hustled into the car and drove off for Pingree.
As parents, we do a lot of
hustling into the car or to the bus. As teenagers, our children are eager to
make their own choices and have a say in the family as they strive for
independence. But we all have Pingree in common. We want you to know that as a
Pingree Parent you are always welcome here and are an integral part of
Pingree’s success.
The Pingree Parents
Association is here for you as a forum and resource. Our primary goal this year
is fostering community among all Pingree families. We will accomplish this by
improving communication, increasing parent involvement and promoting parent
education opportunities. Once a month the Parents Association will have a
feature in Tim’s weekly Friday email called “Pingree Parents Corner.” I will include updates on upcoming
events of interest to parents and information that you might find helpful.
There is lots of activity at
Pingree this time of year. Since sometimes it can feel hard to keep track of (I
check Pingree’s website frequently), I wanted to highlight some here for you:
- The New Parents Dinner on September 16th
is an opportunity for new parents to get better acquainted.
- The first Parents Association meeting is on September
23rd at 5:30. We serve a light supper and there will be a chance to
ask questions and hear from Tim. It’s not too late to sign up as one of our
volunteers. (Click HERE for the online volunteer sign up form).
- Portsmouth Abbey Day is September 25th.
Games begin at 1 pm and there will be food tents hosted by the Parents
Association and your class. Look for more information soon!
- The Snack Shack will open on September 25th.
During home games, home-baked treats, snacks and drinks are available for
purchase to benefit the Parents Association. Click HERE for a link for
more information on the Snack Shack and how you can set up an account for your
student.
- Parent Visiting Night on October 7th is an
opportunity to meet your student’s teachers as you experience a shortened
version of his/her school day.
While I may have missed the
“first day of school” photo, the excitement and possibility of a new school
year is the same as ever! I wish your family all the best this year and I hope
to see you at Pingree soon!
