August 2010
Dear parent,
Your son/daughter has elected to do an independent athletic project or community service project for the coming season. This letter is being sent to you to apprise you of our expectations and requirements for this undertaking. Attached you will find a proposal which must be completed and returned.
Please note the following conditions of the project:
The completed proposal is due by Tuesday, September 7. The project should be a minimum four days a week (not to include weekends) and should be an hour and a half in length each day.
Project proposals will be reviewed, and must be approved, by the Afternoon Program Committee.
Once a project has been approved, a copy of the proposal will be sent to the site supervisor.
Once a project is approved, we will communicate with the student’s supervisor in the first week of the commitment to make sure the project is in place. The supervisor will also be asked to write an evaluation of the student at the end of the project.
If a student does not meet the agreed upon expectations:
If the project is not in place at the beginning of the season, we will notify the parents and the advisor and the student will remain on campus in the afternoon in study hall until the proposal is submitted and approved.
If a student does not attend or is late for his/her after-school commitment: Repeated unexcused absence or lateness will be referred to the Dean of Students which could ultimately result in loss of project, loss of season off, major discipline or failure to graduate for not having met the school’s graduation requirements.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact either Alan McCoy for Independent Projects or Catharine MacIntosh for Community Service Projects. Thank you for your assistance and cooperation in this matter and we hope that your son or daughter has a worthwhile experience.
Sincerely,
Alan McCoy Katy Gibbs
Director of Athletics Director of Community Service
